Chapter 3
Main Mode
The home screen: sequence, track, arrangement and mixer on one page.
Main Mode overview
Main Mode is the MPC’s overview page. It gathers the functions you reach for most onto one screen, so you can see what is going on and change it without jumping between modes.
To get there, press MAIN | TRACK VIEW, or press MENU | PREFS and tap Main.
What is on the screen
- Toolbar — the strip across the top, with the project name and timing information.
- Shortcuts — five mode icons down the left edge.
- Mixer strips — next to the icons, for the current track or pad and the main output (Mixer strips).
- Sequence — the current sequence and its settings (Sequence section).
- Track and Arrangement views — the current track (Track section) or its linear timeline (Arrangement section).
- Function buttons — the touchscreen buttons along the bottom.

Sequence section
This section shows the sequence you are working on and the settings that belong to it. Since MPC 3.9 each sequence can also have its own time signature. The pencil icon on its right edge opens Sequence Edit, a set of tools for erasing, resizing, copying and bouncing.
Fields

- Right strip — follows what you are doing. With a track on the left it shows the main output; with a pad on the left it shows that pad’s track; and when you pick a send on the left it shows the matching return.
Both strips have four views: LVL, FX, SEND and I/O. The main output skips SEND and I/O.
