— Knob explorer
Every oscillator, every knob
The three orange knobs — Wave, Timbre and Shape — do something different for each of the 22 oscillator types. Here is what they do for every one, followed by the filter, envelopes and LFO. Hover or tap a parameter to read what it does.
OSCILLATOR·22 pages
Square and sawtooth with a morph, symmetry and a sine sub-oscillator.
BasicWaves.Morph
Morphs smoothly from a square to a sawtooth, then on to two sawtooths. It works on the waveform’s symmetry.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationDetuned copies of one of four waveforms.
SuperWave.Wave
Chooses the waveform that gets copied: saw, square, triangle or sine.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationChoose a factory table, scan its cycles and add chorus.
Wavetable. An additive oscillator built from whole waveforms.
Harmo.Content
Morphs and switches between tables of harmonic levels. Higher settings give a tone with richer harmonic content.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationA resonator that you strike, bow, or both.
KarplusStr.Bow
How much bowing is added on top of the strike. Bowing gives a continuous tone; the strike on its own dies away.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationTwo detunable waves: a variable square and a variable saw.
V.Analog.A waveshaper followed by a wavefolder.
Waveshaper. Two sine oscillators modulating each other’s phase.
Two Op.FM.Grains arranged into formants and filtered waveforms.
Formant.Interval
The frequency ratio between the first and second formants.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationChord type, inversion and waveform for a four-voice chord.
Chords.Type
Selects the chord, from 11 types running from a plain octave to major and minor 7ths and 9ths, and a minor 11th.
WAVE knobRange 11 chord types
Read the full explanationVowel formants and libraries of spoken words.
Speech.Type
The first part of its travel scans through formants. Further round, it moves through libraries of colours, numbers, letters and words.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationA modelled resonating body with variable material and damping.
Modal.Inharm
The amount of inharmonicity, which works like choosing the material.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationA noise source blended with a pitched wave.
Noise.Wave
Chooses the noise source. Turning clockwise morphs from particle noise through white noise to metallic noise.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationA Noise Engineering quadrature oscillator.
Bass.A Noise Engineering sawtooth with noise modulation and chorus.
Sawx.A Noise Engineering additive oscillator.
Harm.Spread
The relationship between the partials: unison at zero, an octave at maximum, with linear steps in frequency in between.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationYour own wavetables, with a bit-depth control.
WaveUser.Table
Selects one of the 16 tables in the loaded bank.
WAVE knobRange 16 tables
Read the full explanationStart, length and loop for your own samples.
Sample; hold SHIFT and turn TYPE to choose the sample.Start
Where playback begins: 0 is the beginning of the sample and 100 the end.
WAVE knobRange 0–100
Read the full explanationGrains that scan through the sample at a speed you set.
Scan
The speed at which the sample is scanned. It moves the grains’ start position.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationGrains from a start position you control.
Percussive grains with a sharp envelope.
The carrier wave and filter settings for the vocoder.
Vocoder.Wave
A sawtooth when fully anticlockwise. At about 11% it becomes a pulse wave with a 50% duty cycle, narrowing to 99% by 90%. From 91% to fully clockwise it produces noise.
WAVE knob
Read the full explanationFILTER·Filter
Cutoff frequency and resonance of the analogue filter.
Cutoff
The frequency where the filtering takes place. Fully anticlockwise it is about 30 Hz; fully clockwise it is above 15 kHz.
CUTOFF knobRange About 30 Hz to over 15 kHz
Read the full explanationENVELOPE·Envelope
Attack, decay/release and sustain, plus how far the envelope moves the filter.
Attack
How long the envelope takes to rise from its minimum to its peak after a key is pressed.
ATTACK knobRange 0 ms – 10 s
Read the full explanationCYCLING ENV·Cycling envelope
Rise, fall and hold times of the looping envelope, and how hard it modulates.
Env, Run or Loop.Rise
How long the envelope takes to reach its peak once triggered. Hold SHIFT and turn to change the curve.
RISE knob
Read the full explanationLFO·LFO
The speed of the LFO, free in Hz or synced to tempo.
